Bots and Gaile claiming they can't whisper
This may be old news to anyone but me.
So, I always thought gaile lied when she said the trial accounts can't whisper. Then I saw a guy spamming(knowing he was buying it for his bot) that he wanted to buy trial codes. So, I pm him. I have trial code. He responds "Let me check to make sure it's real." Typed in random crap and I get a reply a few minutes later. The trial key is real so let me give you your money. BTW the key wasn't real. So he says "Trading the gold is against the rules so let me get on your account and I will put the money into your storage." Obviously I said no. Knowing it was a scam. I said "Sorry I wont let you on my account but you can keep the code.
This means that the bots that pm you when you go to gtob/ascalon/shing jea and where ever else. Those aren't trial codes they are accounts that got stolen from people who let them on there accounts.
This was a heads up for people who didn't know anything about it. As well as all the people who said gaile lies trial codes can whisper(i was one among many).
Sorry if this is old news and I am just not in the loop.
It is ok to flame me for bieng a *insert ignorant comments*. Flame On
Sorry for any typos or any gramtical errors. I tried my best to type this out right.
Edit: Yes i reported the guy but it was a trial code he was on since he couldn't trade. So it probably didn't do anything.

People would have to be really stupid to let someone like that person onto their account to give them gold.

*flames you for being an ignorant*
he was not a "real bot", he was a scammer, look at it:

he didnt check it, he was trying to scam newbies (and/or noobs too) into believing him.
so you give him a random number, he says its real and its gonna put the money in your storagem those fool or naive enough to fall for it, believing in some easy quick cash give him the access to their accounts, and instead of him giving you money, steals all of it.
not a "real bot" as they only spam the "go to XXX site", ive gotten a few whispers of that, but never a "hey how is it going, sell me a trial code"
funnily enough, trial codes can be gotten from the main site.

There's one born every minute...
Yes, account theft doesn't happen because of some shady hacker in a country with unpronounceable name. Almost always (there are exceptions), it happens with unknowing consent of the victim.
The fact that bots are stolen accounts has been known since start. But hey, by now, everyone should know that sharing/trading/giving away account info is the biggest no-no in a F2P game. What can you do...
I shudder to think what happens if these people own credit cards.

Winner. Bots don't need to steal accounts to whisper nor do they need to buy trial accounts since they can get them dirrectly from a.net for free.
Just a run of the mill scammer (should be on the "worst/funniest scams you've ever heard thread"). Pretty creative and funny though.

They just have to be greedy. Greed disables common sense. This is why the internet "401 scam" did so well, and probably still does.

Gaile has never claimed that trial accounts cannot whisper. In fact, I recall her saying exactly the opposite - that whispering was essential for a good representative gaming experience and therefore would not be denied to trial accounts.

Buy trial codes.
That was your hint right there that this wasn't a real botter, merely a scammer.

Just FYI it's called "social engineering", or the use of the knowledge of how humans work psycho-sociologically. Not all people are stupid, some simply are not cautious, some are too young to have experienced scams, some are too old to care, and there are many more situations that go far beyong the "they're stupid". An enlightening read is Kevin Mitnick's first book when he got out of jail for hacking, where he explains how he got administrator passwords and other niceties from knowledgeable people (in the technical sense of the term, but they didn't know about these "social engineering" tricks) in order to hack into big companies. This happens every day, read this amazing story for even further enlightenment:

This gets a QFT from me. It is never said trial accounts can't whisper, so I don't know why you, OP, are thinking this.

Gaile has deffo said that trial accounts connot whisper back when we were discussing bots that send adds by whisper. Some People said that trial accounts should not be able to chat at all, but gaile said that denying access to the chat channels would ruin the game experience too much. Cant care to find a link, i was there when she said it.

No, that's not true. Gaile has indeed said that as far as she knew whispering and trading was disabled for trial accounts, but not using the ALL channel.
I at the time went to get a trial account and check, but they had already removed it from the website, and I sure wasn't going to buy another copy of guildwars just to test.
Which also makes the issue moot. The trial accounts were abused by botters and spammers because they were free.
Gold sellers would never buy trial accounts, that was a dead giveaway that this was a scam. Hell, pretty much all in-game account selling or buying are scams.

My real point was that one can safely assume that any kind of in-game buying or selling of accounts is always a scam, and that the person who whispered the OP likely was using a normal account. His entire story has nothing to do with trial accounts, and everything to do with one of the more common in-game scams.
I was not making any point about Gaile's trustworthiness, which is frankly irrelevant anyway: she's in PR and not always kept fully in the loop by development and marketing - what else is new?

There's a "Game & Dev tracker" forum where messages by Gaile, here and on other GW forums, are recorded. The only one I found relevant atm with a quicky search is (there may be more):
